Sphere Drone: The Safe Drones

The sphere drone was intended to be made from carbon fibre or fiber glass rods which are flexible and have a high flex and can be replaced easily. But through the course of prototyping, we found out that the fibreglass rods would snap easily under the normal tensions of the rods being held together.

We then decided to use bamboo rods that were split from bamboo rods into pieces of 5mm thickness and then soaked in water to allow it to bend around the sphere. The good thing about having a sphere was that once bent, it kept its shape when dried. Of course, we could work with other natural materials such as rotten but it is up to debate and the ease of getting the materials.

The original idea of the drone was to keep the drone suspended in the middle of the sphere through acrylic mount which then will offer a 360 degree protection from knocks and hits.
